Yo guys : ) I don't know exactly how many of you get on but I decided to write a story and I wanted some opinions on it.
So tell me what you think?
This isn’t the usual kind of story that I would write subject-wise anyway. I know that I’m stepping into dangerous territory with this because I don’t know a lot about the Deaf Community or anything but I want to do this. I think that American Sign Language is beautiful and that the people who “speak” it are just if not more beautiful. I want to learn about it and hopefully with this story I can. I don’t know how much I’m going to get done or if it’ll even be any good but I’m going to give it a shot anyway and hopefully it won’t offend and people will like it.
Here’s the plot: A hearing girl goes to a bookstore cafe every other day, she gets her hot chocolate or tea and sits in the back of store. While she’s there however she notices that someone has written on the table top and being bored replies back not thinking much of it she leaves after finishing. The next day a deaf boy goes to the same cafe and sits at the same table realizing that someone replied to him and he replies back. Pretty much they go back and forth with the conversation on the table without thinking much of who the person is until the conversation gets more intimate and they decide to meet. Neither of them expected how the other would be. So it surprised both of them (more so the hearing girl) to realize how the other was, they continue their conversation anyway but this time the boy signs and the girl is completely lost.
But while they continue to meet the girl realizes more and more how the boy is and how his culture and language is.
I know it’s brief but I think it’ll be fun to write. What do you guys think? Too cliche?
