Niko was at his home that he'd created for his family waiting for something he did not know. Already eaten he felt lazy as he laid on the cool cemented ground that he had struck with lightening. This den was a masterpiece in itself and he was proud of what he'd accomplished. Even more proud when Featherstream was satisfied to make it a home for their pups and himself.
Curling into himself, Niko despite the day allowed himself to rest and take a light sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bram did as he was allowed to do to play, only one five feet from the den at all times. He and his father had come home only after Bram had agreed to the terms. As stupid as they were. He didn't see what the big problem was-he'd never killed anything significant. Never even tried because his dad wouldn't let him. Bram was always just to young to understand what was going on.
But he'd learned to behave himself as long as his dad was around. Now daddy was asleep and Bram was allowed to do whatever he wanted. Leaving his father's side Bram ran a little further out into the landscape staring at the word around him. So this was where his sister loved to roam? It was a shame she wasn't here to play with, but Bram was not missing his chance. His black fur stuck out as the pup sniffed the air and started to follow a grasshopper.
Lal was silent. Her mother had asked Lal to stay by her, but then had started concentrating on herbs of some sort, and Bram and Lal both knew that when she did that, they could get away with a lot. Lal had left Feather as soon as she had started mumbling to herself, and had crept away. She had had a feeling that Bram would wander off without her, and she didn't want to be left out. as she saw him walking by, she squatted like she had learned to do from her aunt, then pounced on top of him in a tackle. "HA! Got you!" She had him pinned down. "I had a feeling you would try this! I wanna come! Mom's all lost in her herbs again."
"Oof!" "Bram fell to the ground with a heavy weight on top of him and was in a state of shock until he heard his sisters voice. "No, you can't come!" He pushed his twin up and stood up shaking his head at his sister. He wanted to go off alone damn it, but he knew that Lal would run home. She always seemed to do that when she didn't get her way. "Fine, you can come. But I'm going to the caves. And if you get scared or lost don't blame me."
Lal tumbled off her brother and glared at him when he said no. "I'm not gonna let you wander off by yourself! Mom always says how she never wants either of us alone for one second!" But then he seemed to change his mind, and she perked up immediately. "Yay! So the Caves? I won't get scared! I'm not scared of some old haunted den! It's not like Luna's gonna pop out of nowhere!" She trotted ahead of him with her chest out, then paused. She spun around and bit him playfully then ran the other way, trying to stay out of his reach. "Can't catch me! I'm gonna get there first!" She laughed, trying her best to stay ahead of him, but also worrying about falling over something or other, so she wasn't as fast as she could be.
Bram narrowed his eyes as his sister took off and ran after her with a gleam in his eyes. she was not getting away from him this time. He was not going to let Lal get away with pouncing him and then running faster than he was. Frustration bristled and Bram paused slightly remembering his father's warning about his powers. The reasons why Bram wasn't supposed to leave the den when they were home. Wasn't supposed to talk to strangers. He was special. That's what his dad said. Really really special and it made Bram happy, but for some reason it also made him said because he couldn't run around and see other people like his mom and Lal did.
But of course he could play with Lal! Daddy had told him once that Lal was special. He couldn't hurt her, not that he could, but he couldn't and that was because he was her brother. So letting out his frustrations slightly he killed three catepillers before the emotion gave way to excitment as he was close enough to nip at her hind legs. "You can't beat me!"
Lal felt something in her belly and took the chance to look back breifly. But she tripped, then tumbled, feeling her brother, who was right behind her, trip over her. "Ow...." Lal got up and shook herself off. "Ow... sorry. I thought something was watching us or something..." She looked around, seeing no one. She tilted her head, then yipped and ran forward. "The caves!" She released the feeling in her stomach, feeling suddenly more excited. Three butterflies suddenly fluttered around her, and she watched one, then got down and jumped as high as she could to grab one. it flew just out of reach and she dropped to the ground again. "Aww... nuts...." She wasn't that good at jumping; her brother had better back legs. She hadn't quite gotten to the caves, she was just outside. She suddenly had a feeling of responsibility hit her there, staring into them. "Bram?"
Chesh lay lounging by a bunch of caves. His eyes were focused on two little creatures, likely of his own species, playing and running about almost just below him. The female seemed to wish to linger outside of the caves, uncertainty filling her. A slow grin crossed his face, tail twitching to the side as he idly watched the two. The one seemed to have a moment of... doubt. Oh, but doubt never works in situations of adventure. A light chuckle escaped him. Looked as though he’d have to point these pups right.
Just as he was slipping from the rock downwards, his body slowly began to take a mist-like substance before he seemingly disappeared.
His eyes were the first things to materialize in front of the female wolf, followed by his nose. The rest of his body simply seemed to slip out of the mists that followed, and he grinned again. ”Oh, now, now, now, now, now, doubt always dims the joys of adventure.” He said with a grin. ”I advise... nibbling on a twig. That should clear your head of doubt.” He murmured, disappearing only to materialize beside the female.
”Between you and me, I might be frightened to enter that cave myself... but surly the rewards are greater than the cost.” The words were whispered in her ear before he materialized on a large rock just to the side of the entrance of the cave.
Bram tripped over his sister and groaned as he somersaulted before landing on his back. "Owww," Blinking at the sky he rolled over and shook his head facing the mouth of the caves. The sight was awe inspiring to a young wolf pup. It was just so big and really like a mouth with its jagged ends. It wasn't smooth like the stone in their home, but real rock. He was so absorbed that he missed his sister running after a butterfly, but he wasn't absorbed enough to miss the glimmer of another wolf as if flickered beside his sister. Stopping in mid step and hearing the sound he jerked his head back concerned, but more shocked than anything.
It was an actual wolf. Bram's sphere unlike his sister's was small. Only his mother, his sister, and even more so his father existed in his world. He hadn't met another wolf at all yet. And being a boy curiosity overrode every other emotion. Bram was having trouble keeping up with where the wolf was moving. It was so cool!
Finally he stopped and Bram stared up at him, "Rewards? Do you live in these caves? What's in there?" His tail wagged happily as every word his father told him about strangers disappeared in an instant.
Lal nearly jumped out of her fur when eyes materialized in front of her. Her surprize was obvious, but when he materialized fully, her surprise turned into curiosity. Her ears perked at his words. She jumped again when he disappeared and rematerialized next to her. When he did so again to the top of a rock, she was not as surprised to see it. She growled at the wolf for suggesting her being scared of the caves. "I'm not scared! How dare you think that? And why are you talking about nibbling a twig? I have no doubts!" She puffed out her chest proudly, her fur fluffing up in annoyance, a habit she picked up from her mother. "My brother and I can handle ourselves. We can face whatever is in there!"
“Oh, what brave words, little one. Be sure not to let your bravo cloud your better part of judgement and common sense.” He teased the little female. His eyes trailed over to the dark entrance of the cave. It loomed wide open, almost as though it were going to leap out and eat them at any moment. How simply delicious. What a curious thought. To live in there. He supposed it wasn’t such a bad place... Although it was dark and damp, there might be toadstools. His ears flattened against his head. ”I would never live in there. Smells funny.”
A large grin found itself on his face at that moment, and he slipped from the rock, solidifying at the maw of the cave. ”Although... I would certainly like to join you on your little adventure.” His ears perked up and his lips drew a curious smile as he floated onto his back. Gently touching his head with a paw, he nudged it off of his neck, and held it in front of him. His body tossed it between both paws, the head smiling and chuckling. ”After all, you’ll need someone to keep your head.” With those words, he disappeared into a puff of smoke, and reappeared beside the male pup, body fully intact.
”Shall we get going?”
Bram was a little disappointed that the odd wolf didn't live in the cave. He looked like he was the type of wolf to live on the edge and in the pups mind it put him close to reverence. Even his father was so damn boring that it was difficult.
"Be quiet Lal-Come on lets go in." He chastised his sister. What was she trying to do pushing someone as cool as this away? This was great. Facing the mouth of the cave Bram was puffed up from both his sisters words and the other wolf with them so he was able to swallow his fear and take the first two step into the cave.
Lal glared at her brother for telling her to be quiet. She skidded in front of him and glared some more. "Bram, use your common sense, she whispered. "You don't know anything about this wolf! Why are you listening to him? Mom and Dad always say to watch our backs around wolves we don't know!" She saw the Cheshire wolf's head pop off, and looked at him as if he were crazy. "We shouldn't trust him," she continued to whisper, "I know I don't. We don't know what his ultear... ulterior motive is!" She knew what it was, it was just hard for her to say. Her mother liked to use big words sometimes.
Bram was annoyed with his sister because they had finally found a playmate other than each other (something really special for the male pup because of all the time he spent with just his father) and now she wanted to push him away. Yes, yes, he remembered what dad said, but come on! The other wolf didn't look mean. Oh and she thought she was so smart using big words. Bram rolled his eyes, "You worry to much. We're not babies anymore and we can take care of ourselves. Besides I think he's cool."
Lal gave in. Once her brother thought of something, he stuck to it, no matter what. She could almost never convince him otherwise. "Alright, then. If you are so... determined... to do this, then I won't stop you. But don't say i didn't warn you," she whispered. She looked at the other wolf, baring an adult-like manner. Aloud, she told him, "If you are going to come with us, we may as well know each other's names. My name is Lal, and this is Bram. What's your name?" She knew that she had to be the smart one for now, cause her brother seemed to be set on rushing into things. At least this way, if something went wrong, she knew who to talk to as a witness and/or the trouble maker.
The two pups argued, and Chesh’s body vapourized once again as he floated above the cave. His toes curled as he stared at his ghostly paws, and a slow grin crossed his lips. ”He took his vorpal sword in hand, long time the manx-ome foe he sought, so rested he by the tum tum tree…”[/i] ”If you are going to come with us, we may as well know each other’s names. My name’s Lal, and this is Bram. What’s your name?” Cheshire’s song was cut off, and he looked inquisitively down to the two pups as he floated down, and disappeared.
Arching his back, he floated over the young female, flicking his tail across her nose, ”Cheshire.” His grin crossed his face, and he reappeared by the entrance of the cave. ”Shall we get going then?” He repeated, disappearing into the darkness.
The cave was wet and damp, the moist air tickling his nose until the purple wolf sneezed. The loud sound was followed by laughter, which echoed back to the entrance.
Hearing the laughter Bram's fur stuck up and he trembled slightly in excitement.What could Cheshire see that was so great? Without even a backwards glance he threw all caution aside running into the cave and smelling the damp air and the other wolf. It was so different that he would be lying if he said he didn't feel anxious, but he was so much more curious. "Cheshire?" Bram called out not seeing the older wolf and wanting the comfort an elder brought with his presence.
Lal jumped at the sudden disappearance of both wolves from her side. "Bram! Wait! don't just run off!" She ran after him, finding she could easily keep him in her sight, but couldn't quite catch up. It was quite easy to hear him, though, cause he wasn't doing a good job at letting his paws quietly hit the ground, which she had learned to do... to a certain extent. She also heard his voice. "Bram!" She skidded into him. Then she immediately got to her feet and glared at him, taking care not to raise her voice due to echoes. "Don't run off like that! I want to come too!" Then she sniffed and looked around, her anger forgotten. "Wow... It's so cool in here..." Her voice resonated off the walls. then she suddenly had an impulse she couldn't resist. "Echo!!!!"
Echo!!! Echo!!! Echo!!!
From the slight mist, Cheshire slunk out from the darkness, laughing as the young female called out, listening to her echo numerous times. ”Careful,” He purred quietly, floating lazily above them, ”to not wake the bats.” His tail pointed upwards. Numerous small, almost rock-like things stuck out from the ceiling. At first glance, one would assume they were merely stalactites. But then the echo bounced back to them, and the small little formations stirred slightly. Soon tiny red, yellow, and orange beady eyes were looking down at the three wolves.
Cheshire gave a sigh, disappeared, then reappeared a few feet away. ”Oh dear.” He muttered, holding up his chin with a paw. ”We’d best hurry.” At that moment a chorus of screeches and cries rang out around them, and the air was filled with the leathery sound of bat wings beating the stagnant air. A volley of bats swooped from the ceiling, heading towards the wolves and the back of the cave.
(( I am reviving this thread....>.> maybe. ))
Bram stared at Chesire shushing his sister. He couldn't hear what the older wolf was saying until it was to late and several eyes were staring at them. Eyes from the ceiling-it was eerie. Almost as if the ceiling was looking at them and to a pup it was terrifying. Bram was startled in fear, but when the bats moved he howled in fear-then chaos happened.
Without realizing what he'd done, Bram had on instinct tapped into his power. He ran deeper into the cave away from Chesire and Lal. His heart beat rapidly trying to get away from the bats, but it didn't matter anyway. As the bats got close they fell from the air dazed and unconscious before fluttering away again. There wasn't a bat that could touch Bram.
Deeper into the cave and away from the bats, Bram stopped to catch his breath. He breathed heavily and watched the darker world around him-scared, but safe. It was to soon for him to realize that he was totally lost.
(lol awesome!)
Lal jumped and squeaked, her fur fluffed, then ran to hide behind Cheshire. but then her brother howled in shock, and caused her to jump out from behind him again, bristling in fear and anger. She had been born first, after all, and her instincts gave her the need to protect her kin. But then... as Bram ran, she watched in shock for a moment as the bats... faltered they flew away again, but it was strange. Then she screamed his name as he ran deeper into the cave.
"BRAM!!!" She ran as fast as she could after him, leaving Cheshire behind. "Bram!!! Stop! Please!" She had lost sight of him, and the scent was hard for her to make out his scent in this damp cave. "Bram?" She slowed at a split in the paths. 'Oh no...' She opened her mouth for a better scent, and it helped to lead her one way. but the scent was fading fast. "Bram!" She came to another split in the rock. the scent was yet fainter, but she could just make it out this time. she ran a few wolf-lengths, then another split in the rock threw her completely off. "Brother! Bram! Where are you?" Her heart panicked now. Scenting in vain, only good enough to scent the most recent, she thought she caught a whiff of scent... and went down the wrong tunnel. "Bram?" Her voice echo grew softer at that place where she took a wrong turn. It was now hard to tell which direction she went.
